Cherish - Did You Know?

Did you know that Cherish, the novel by Lee Lane, is --

Of course, you'll have to read it to find out why. ;-)

Please drop back by, tomorrow, for Music Monday when I'm going to share something very sweet with you!

Until then, have a restful day.

Music Monday - Slim Whitman

I was very saddened to hear of Ottis Dewey "Slim" Whitman, Jr.'s death on the 19th of this month of June 2013. However, it was good to know that he lived such a long, full life reaching the age of 90. I always enjoyed Slim's singing, because I like yodeling, and he was great at it. Also, most of Slim's songs just sound so haunting to me and I love that!

They may have been poking fun at Slim when they used this first song to rupture the heads of invading Martians, but I really loved that a good ol' Florida boy, like Slim, could save the day just by doing what came natural like.

Cherish Puzzles - Dolphin Ring

Carrie, the protagonist of my novel, Cherish, her family, and her friends enjoy putting together jigsaw puzzles. Carrie loves any puzzle that is sea-related, like this sweet dolphin puzzle that I'm sharing from The Jigzone. I like the name of the site, but I can't help but have a little laugh to myself, because it makes me think of dancing a Jig. But it could also be seen as a fishing lure, which Carrie would like very much as well. ;-)
Enjoy!

Music Monday - Gilbert and Sullivan

A friend of mine just went to see a performance of The Gondoliers and it got me thinking about some of the amazing music of librettist W. S. Gilbert and composer Arthur Sullivan. Here are two beloved Gilbert and Sullivan favorites, but do check into some of the other Gilbert and Sullivan pieces that you can find on YouTube.

Cherish Your Dad

In my novel, Cherish, the protagonist, Carrie, has two strong male role models in her life, her father and her maternal grandfather. Their wisdom, their time, and their love for her help to provide a stable foundation in her life when certain things go horribly wrong.

In honor of all of the great dads out there who help to bear up their sons and daughters during various crises and are just there for their children whatever the situation may entail, Happy Father's Day, gentlemen!

Cherish Humor - Carrie's Silly Jokes

Let's eat grandma!
Let's eat, grandma!
Punctuation
Saves Lives!

There's a part in my novel, Cherish, where Carrie, the protagonist, and her family gather together for an impromptu reunion. They retell family stories, sing (and play) favorite songs, and Carrie tells them some silly jokes she has developed around common, day-to-day things.

Carrie's Silly Jokes:

Garage Sales and Yard Sales confuse me because I've been to them and never once have I been able to purchase a yard or even the garage to put on one! And don't get me started about Rummage Sales! What the heck is a 'rummage' anyway? It sounds like something a pirate would drink. Yo! Ho! Ho! And a bottle of Rummage!

You know all of this talk about opening up the Borders? I sure wish they would! That was one of my favorite stores!

I thought about going to Bed, Bath, and Beyond, but I had second thoughts. I'm not ready to go to the Great Beyond just yet. But it's mighty nice that people have a place where they can get a little rest and grab a shower before their journey to the Other Side.

Wanted to work on the yard, but my budget's a bit tight right now, so I headed over to Dollar Tree. You know they got mad at me when I threw the cashier a dollar and started to drive off with one of the trees they had on display out in the parking lot -- and after I did all the work to dig it up, too!

I went to Walmart. Now they had quite a few walls, but when I brought the crane up to take one of those bad boys home, they called security!

Well, I'll tell ya. I went to Stein Mart, too, and I couldn't find even one stein! All they had there was a bunch of useless clothes and accessories! Pfft! Go figure!

[Author's Disclaimer:
Some (or none) of these silly jokes may be used in the story, since I'm still in the writing process. ;-) ]

Go out and have some silly weekend fun!

Music Monday - Jeri Southern

Tonight let's give a listen to the lovely and talented Jazz Pianist/Torch Singer, Jeri Southern. She quit the music business in the 1960s to teach and wrote Interpreting Popular Music At the Keyboard in her later years. She definitely wasn't just another pretty face.

Cherish Oxygen

Sweet - Love is Like Oxygen
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmlKjO4juCo

This song has a little of what Cherish is all about -- not that it's all love and romance, mind you! No, there's some exciting and scary bits in there too!

By the way, the setting for the story is modern. Just in case you were wondering. ;-)

Enjoy!

Music Monday - Theme Song Covers

I love a good cover version of a song. Sometimes that's hard to find, but not in this case. In fact, I had a hard time choosing which version of a theme cover to choose. So much awesome talent out there!

A rather incredible A Cappella cover of the Star Wars theme:
