Music Monday - Science Fiction

Got very busy day today, so I'm sharing a playlist of Cyberpunk music I just found. I apologize in advance if there's anything offensive in this music. I didn't get a chance to review it ahead of time. What littel I did get a chance to listen to as I wrote this sounded pretty good, so I hope the rest proves to be enjoyable as well.

Music Monday - Fantasy

I love fantasy novels and movies and the music that goes with them. So this week's Music Monday I'm going to take you down a dreamy, slightly haunting path deep into an enchanted wood of giggling fairies, watchful elves, and a whole slew of witches, wizards, goblins.

Do you have your armor on? Good! You never know what we might encounter along the way. I'll bring my favorite fiery hands spell and we'll be on our way.

Writers

I would like to share this article by Jill Domschot for the edification of my fellow poets and fiction writers.

It is interesting to me that my brother, also a poet and writer, died from complications of his alcoholism. Sadly, one of his exes destroyed all of his work. Glad I gave up the sauce at an early age.

It may be true that a lot of poets and writers of fiction hole themselves up with their worries and their work, but a lot of us, myself included, enjoy nature and find a lot of inspiration in the world that surrounds us all. In fact, I really enjoy it when I hear a little catch of a conversation whilst dining out or taking a walk and that triggers the idea for a whole new story, scene for a story, or an entire poem.

However it is through introspection that the worlds that writers and poets build are born. Life is, after all, a series of emotional ups and downs. I think it's who you take along with you on this roller coaster ride called Life that matters. For me and the house (or world) my stories have built, I think I'll continue to invite the Lord to sit alongside me. At least if the darn thing goes flying off the rails I'll already be with my Maker.

Music Monday - Horror

I hope you had a great Memorial Day weekend for all who celebrated it, but... I have to scare ya now. So make sure you have your favorite blanket, stuffed toy, or loved one to help you get through the next few songs. You're gonna need 'em!

A little note about this first one:
The book this movie was based on was handed to me by one of my best friends, a sweet, young church-going girl who told me it was a good book. Now, I don't know if she was just trying to freak me out and wanted to get rid of the book herself or what, but I read maybe the first couple of pages and simply could not read any further. The book gave me a very bad feeling. I put it away and left it when I left home a couple of years later.  My father and I watched the movie and I will admit I had to keep the lights on when I went to bed for a long time after that.  I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. But I do know that I don't like the fact that they damaged Linda Blair's back when they were making the movie, despite her complaints the whole time. However, I do think Mike Oldfield is an amazing artist and I love this song, the whole album, really.

The first time I saw Halloween I was over at my friend's house. Her boyfriend was there as well. We were all sitting on the couch watching. She was in the middle and her boyfriend and I flanked her. After a while I noticed that the space in which I was seated was becoming more and more narrow. In fact, it had gotten to the point that I was completely squished up against the arm of the couch. I suspected it was my friend and that she had gotten quite frightened and was simply hugging up against me in her fright. Imagine my surprise when she told her boyfriend to move over because they were obviously squishing me. I can't help but laugh about that to this day. I should have known better anyway, my friend is the kind of girl who giggles when she gets scared.

This next one also makes me smile and giggle a little when I recall seeing it with friends, one of the same friends who squished his girlfriend and me against each other on the couch during our viewing of Halloween. That's because despite how scared I was it was a lot of fun watching him growing smaller and smaller and smaller in his theater chair with every new terror that entered the screen. However, that doesn't even compare with the fact that my own big man also grew smaller and smaller and smaller in his chair as he watched Aliens with the exact same reactions as my friend. Is it just me or are guys really cute when they're terrified? Okay, maybe not for real terrified, of course, but the movie going kind of terrified that makes even the biggest, strongest guys try to completely disappear in their seats.

What made the next movie such a memorable experience for me -- besides the creepy scare factor of it -- was the audience that I first saw it with. There were people who were literally jumping up out of their chairs and screaming with fright. It was one of the most enjoyable horror movie experiences of my life.

The next one is because I love clowns so very much. No, not really -- only the ones with the big, fuzzy, red buttons.

This one's just because I think this is one of the most well written and portrayed series on television.
